Arkansas License Plate SMALL

Welcome to our website and thank you for your interest in the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) Northwest Arkansas Community Internal Medicine Residency Program, based in Fayetteville, AR, and consisting of training sites at the UAMS Northwest Campus, Mercy Hospital Northwest Arkansas and Veterans Health Care System of the Ozarks.  We are a newly-accredited program created to serve the people of the State of Arkansas and to train general internists for the rapidly growing Northwest Arkansas Region.

I came to northwest Arkansas to be a part of building an innovative and unique program which will prepare you professionally and personally for the challenges of a successful career in internal medicine. Education is our top priority, and our faculty are committed to not only preparing you to pass the ABIM certification exam, but also to set the stage for a lifetime of learning, asking questions, and questioning assumptions in the service of your patients. The patients from whom you will learn come from all walks of society and encompass all socioeconomic classes. In caring for these Arkansans, you will play a vital role in improving their access to care and addressing health care disparities and barriers to care.

I like to think of our program as analogous to the description of Arkansas on the old license plates: “Land of Opportunity.” I hope you will give strong consideration to applying for our inaugural class as we seize the opportunity to improve the lives of the people of Arkansas by providing state-of-the–art medical care, while providing you the opportunity to grow professionally and personally as you learn to be a doctor in the Northwest Arkansas community,  all while allowing us the opportunity and privilege to mentor you on your journey to a successful and rewarding medical career.
